In the Laundry Room at Grace Manor!
My decor style and tastes have endured a Tuscan phase, a little bit of Modern Farmhouse, and my everything-white phase, but I’m slowly making my way through this house to bring each room to life in alignment with my decor dreams of today. Since this space, like the kitchen, and the bathroom, is an area that needs to be functional as soon as possible after move-in, I just set everything up similar to the way it was at The Queen’s Quarters. It was the quickest and easiest way to “decorate for now” at the time.
The details on The Queen’s Quarters Laundry Room, posted HERE, leans a little bit on the Modern Farmhouse side, which I was excited to ditch going forward. And just like with all the other spaces in this house, I was determined to keep the budget to a minimum. It is after all the laundry room, so no need to get crazy, right? It’s the largest laundry room I’ve had, and I wanted it to be a little more elegant and polished; to “feel” pretty. I also wanted it to double as sort of a mudroom area as well, since it’s just off the garage door. To get inspiration and ideas, I set off into Pinterest land, lol! And I fell in love with this picture…
Ahhh, I just have to sigh when I look at it cause it’s just perfection. Now of course this laundry room has every bell and whistle you can imagine. I mean, those marble countertops, the edging and all the molding detail on those custom cabinets, window and floor boards, the chandelier, geesh! But I wasn’t so much looking to duplicate the things in this picture, (of course, because budget / money, duh). I wanted to capture the feeling I got from it. It feels pretty, sophisticated and polished, exactly the way I wanted mine to “feel”. Since I don’t have built in cabinets to paint a calming blue color, I had to find the right shade of blue that gave me the same feels AND matched the undertones of the painting my mom and I created, AND, match the blue in a lamp I purchased from HomeGoods a while ago “just because” I thought it was pretty. Don’t judge me. I sampled quite a few blues…
For almost a week, I tried to find a color by Behr (because that’s been my brand of choice since forever), with no success. Then I happened upon a color by Benjamin Moore that screamed “this is it!” But after purchasing a sample and sampling it on the wall, I was immediately reminded why I love Behr so much. The odor was extremely strong, and the consistency was so thin I knew I’d wind up having to do 3 coats. There had to be a Behr color that matched the Benjamin Moore color. So back to Home Depot I went, for like the 8th time, and thankfully, I did find a color that they tweaked to match, and I was ecstatic.
How It Started...
How It's Going...
Here are the details… You know how I do. Most of the items I already had and simply re-purposed them, like the mirrors, counter stool, table for folding clothes, tension rod (spray painted gold), hangers, towels, artwork, photos and frames, bench (I spray painted the base gold), pillows, sconces, small gold decor pieces, florals and vase. And these are the things I purchased, all from Amazon except two… the area rug, the wicker hamper, the rattan baskets that house all my laundry room things, the curtains, the dryer sheet container (top spray painted gold) and the expandable shoe shelf underneath the bench. The scalloped rattan tray was on clearance at Marshalls, so unfortunately I don’t have a link for that. I added the shelf above the washer and dryer from Home Depot and had them cut it down to the length I needed, then covered it with a marble-like contact paper. The folding table is also covered in the same contact paper, and ooowee, did it give me trouble! I don’t know if I’ll do that again. And last but certainly not least… ya’ll know I couldn’t wait to swap out that flourescent light for this chandelier.
I have to say, this room was so much fun to decorate. Watching it come to life as I envisioned made me so giddy. Next, is a little patio sprucing up. Until then :)xo
