The Guest Wing at Grace Manor

I’ve finally finished every room in the house and the guest area was the final frontier. I’ll take you through the guest bathroom, guest room #1, and guest room #2. So let’s get into it. But before we do, now that I’m seeing this hallway space above in print, I think I’ll be adding pendant lighting at some point. It’s looks a little blah with the recessed lights, right?! Anywho, let me stay forcused… The Guest Wing is located to the right, just off the Art Gallery when you enter the home. You get to the guest bathroom first, to the left. Besides painting the walls the color that runs throughout the house, Behr Marquee Even Better Beige, in semi-gloss, I didn’t really spend a lot of time “decorating” this space. I just needed it to match the flow of the home and to be neutral and functional. I actually only purchased the large wall art from HomeGoods clearance section, the metal piece on the shower wall from Burlington’s, and the vanity lights from Amazon. Everything else came from things I had in my decor pantry. This was the first space in the guest area that was completed back in early 2025, thinking the other two rooms would soon follow. But then… life 🙂

The fact that I couldn’t remove the builder grade mirror really put a damper on my decor aspirations for this space. Knowing how difficult it would be to remove these as I’d done in my previous homes, I’d asked during the building process to the point of begging that they please NOT put those in. Unfortunately, I lost that one. And sure enough, after almost severing a finger while removing the small mirror in the powder room, I had to pivot. Whatever adhesive they’re using now to install these mirrors is some kind of ninja-strength substance, and impossible to move on your own without the help of professionals. And even THEY didn’t want to touch them. Ugghhh…

Almost severely injured myself removing the one in the powder room...
Found a workaround I could live with in the Primary Suite...

Ok, so enough mirror drama, moving on to Guest Room 1...

If you’re thinking this room looks almost identical to the guest bedroom in my last home, The Queen’s Quarters, it’s because IT IS, lol!  You can view it HERE. I just moved some artwork around, changed the feature wall paint color to a darker shade of gray, Behr Marquee’s Cracked Pepper in eggshell, added the bench from Amazon, and the chandelier, though purchased from Amazon, is currently listed as unavailable, but it is showing available at Bed Bath Beyond. The blackout curtains and area rug are also from Amazon. Surprise, surprise, lol! Everything else, including throws, small seat, mirrors, lamps, etc., was re-purposed from my existing decor stash. And now, moving on to my new favorite room in the house… (I say that after I finish decorating every room, lol!) The Sitting Room / Guest Room #2.

Before…

After...

So before I get to the details and pictures of the new space, there’s a little story behind it all… Once upon a time, like last month, I thought I wanted a dark, moody room with a speakeasy vibe to it, with deep chocolate walls and dark grey and tan everything; something that felt like yummy chocolate and caramel candy. And these were my inspo pics…

Yeah, that didn’t work AT ALL! I actually hated it, and realized that though I could possibly pull off this vision in another space, it didn’t fit the vibe and energy of Grace Manor. Those dark chocolate walls, Behr Marquee’s appropriately named Dark Truffle, made it look like a dark, spooky place at the end of the hall. I even painted the ceiling! And I NEVER paint ceilings. What on earth was I thinking? I blame Pinterest, lol!

Both pics above were taken with the sun shining at it’s brightest. I was smiling to keep from crying, because I knew what came next. I was going to have to re-think and re-do everything. It reminded me of that time when… see this post HERE. This room was too dark, and it didn’t fit the vibe and flow of the rest of my home. I’m always thinking about re-sale when I’m decorating, regardless of whether or not I’m considering selling and moving, and this would have been the one “scratch your head” space. So the first thing I had to do after returning the items I’d purchased for this dark, dungeon-esque room, was tackle the wall color. Listen, I can easily paint a room in a day. But priming these walls so the darkness wouldn’t bleed through the next paint color took me 4 days and 4 gallons of primer. Shout out to Rose and Lily in the Home Depot Paint Department near my house 🙂 I can most confidently say with my whole chest, I will NEVER paint another ceiling again! My shoulders and neck are still recovering… I’m serious.

4 coats of primer to the trim, ceiling started, chandelier spray painted
3rd coat of primer to walls and ceiling completed
4th coat of primer completed, ceiling color restored

Once the priming was done and I regained muscle consciousness in my upper body, it was time to implement the new vision for the room; an elegant sitting room with a bold statement color, that could transition easily into a guest bedroom.

Details & Links

Paint color is Behr Marquee Whipped Cream in eggshell. It looks white in the pictures but it’s more of an ivory color. The sofabed is from Living Spaces, and it’s not like the sofabeds from back in the day. It’s actually quite comfortable. The chandelier, coffee table and side tables are from Amazon. I just spray painted them, but of course 😉 The blackout curtains, area rug, and wireless wall sconce lights are all from… I know you’ll never guess… Amazon. The pillows are from At Home. The televsion was super inexpensive from Best Buy, but I hired an electrician to move the electrical box up to hide the cord and to mount the tv on the wall. The lamps I’ve had since 2007, purchased from Goodwill for $10, along with the ottoman / stool. I re-upholstered it for the fourth time using fabric I already had. The same fabric was used to re-upholster the two side chairs; chairs from my rod iron dining table that have been used both outdoor and indoor. The two mirrors on the wall behind the sofa are from HomeGoods (no link available for these). And the large leaning mirror on the other wall was one I used in my closet for a period of time that I purchased when I first moved in. The table between the two chairs is one I had in the garage and just covered it with fabric I had. The throw and all other decor pieces were items I already had in my decor arsenal. After everything I’d been through with this space, I was determined to decorate as spendthrifty as possible. It took some brainstorming, but I’m very pleased with how it all turned out. Whew, that was a lot!

This was indeed a journey that I can now look back on and laugh. Thank God I’m finally finished decorating all spaces in this house! Until next time :)xo
